Reading is the essential skill that is a daily requirement in our daily lives and parents would do well to promote it, by becoming good role models, by showing their children that they use and love reading and by reading to their children. Establishing good reading habits early in life is the key to promoting good reading skills in their children, which they will use to learn in the content areas. Reading is also the way we pick up knowledge about spelling and language use and this flows through to written expression. It's no secret that good readers are more likely do do well at school and it's no secret that doing poorly at school is a quick way to enter the poverty trap.
