Have You Walked Bare-Footed on Burning Hot Coals?

Eight weeks ago I walked on burning hot coals.

I was attending Anthony Robbins' course, "Unleash the Power Within", in Sydney. How I came to be there is a story in itself. It was my surprise birthday present from my wife. My wife had been planning how she could do the course in Sydney and celebrate my birthday and that's how I came to be in Sydney.

When I was driving to the airport I had no idea where we were going. My wife had kept very quiet and so had my kids. At one point however I had to know which airport we were going to and it was then I found out we were going to Sydney.

I was really surprised because we didn't need to go there as we had been 7 years ago and I felt if we were going somewhere we should be going somewhere new. It was still exciting to just head off..just the two of us and have a break.

When we got to the hotel apartment she told me were also booked in to the Anthony Robbins course. Well I was starting to see why she chose Sydney. We knew nothing about Anthony Robbins.

We later learned that he has influenced people from 80 countries. That's a lot of people that have been touched by his philosophy.

Part of the program...and to my dismay..was walking bare-footed on hot coals. I didn't want this experience and preferred to keep my skin. In fact there was no way I was going to walk on hot coals - at least that's what I thought!

On the 3rd night we were asked to partner with a stranger and help to coach each other. Before this we went through mental training. We visualized ourselves walking over the coals...saying.."cool moss, cool moss, cool moss, cool moss, cool moss, cool moss" all the way across.

Here I was in the queue, with my partner who wanted me to go first. I did of course. In my miond I was looking forthe back door..I was surrounded my people..thousands and there were at least 20 pits of burning coals. Everyone was moving forward and I went along wondering whether I was a sucker or not. I actually felt like a big fool.

Before you know it my feet touched the grass at the front of the pit..and my instinct to run was turned into.."what the hell, I better do this" and I resolutely lifted my head, my eyes glazed over and my voice echoed "cool moss" till I reached the other side.

I had made it! Untouched by burning coals.
